Phase 2, Post 2

One of the things that Dr. Chodosh talked about during his Aging Incubator presentation that really caught my attention was the Student Image Competition. I haven’t personally participated in this competition in the past but it is something that I may be interested in for the future. I find it truly interesting that students like me have the power to show a different perspective of the aging community. I believe that Dr. Chodosh was absolutely correct when he mentioned that much of the older population in our communities are oftentimes neglected and unfortunately not given the necessary attention that they need. Yes, they may be getting the basic necessities such as food, water, clothes, etc. but many times they aren’t being mentally stimulated anymore because “they're just old people now.” The Student Image Competition allows students like myself to show how the aging population is still active and productive in society. It is completely inaccurate to see our elders as incapable, unproductive members of society. It is also a huge misconception that they are not able to use the technology advance of laundry that we have today. Many of them are actually very proficient in using the latest technologies even more so than some of the younger population. I feel like this is something that the student image competition helps capture. Dr. Chadosh also talked about athletes in the aging population. Most times we fail to acknowledge that these people can still be very active despite their older age. Believe that it is very important to consider this population when developing and creating new technologies. Capturing images of such populations doing something that typically a “young person would do” definitely shows creators and developers but there’s a population that they have to consider because the older population is still very much a part ofdis also one that needs to be catered too as they are also interacting with up and coming technological advancements.
